Dinner in Nazaré, Saturday and Sunday

Nazaré is a seafood town, and it does seafood well. But after a few days of grilled fish and cataplana, most people want something else. That's what we cook. Chakula serves healthy African fusion — African flavours, international techniques, fresh local produce — every Saturday and Sunday evening, just off the seafront at the south end of the boardwalk.

    What dinner looks like

We serve the full menu all day, and plenty of it suits an evening meal: injera with spicy berbere lentil curry, chapati with silky hummus and pomegranate beef sauté, Kingston–Mombasa jerk chicken sandwich with plantain chips, spiced okonomiyaki with kachumbari, and big salad bowls with mango, avocado and roasted sweet potato. Breads, pickles and sauces are made in house. Cocktails, natural wine and fresh juices alongside. Vegetarian and vegan dishes are marked throughout.

    Questions about dinner in Nazaré

Where can I eat dinner in Nazaré that isn’t seafood?

Chakula serves African fusion on Saturday and Sunday evenings until 23:00 — ugali, injera, chapati, jerk chicken, spiced vegetable dishes and salad bowls. Nazaré’s other non-seafood options include Indian and grilled meat restaurants, but we’re the only African kitchen in town.

What time does the kitchen close?

Last orders at 22:00 on Saturday and Sunday. We close at 23:00.

Do I need to book for dinner?

Walk-ins are welcome, but summer weekends get busy, so booking is safer. Book through our site or message us on WhatsApp at +351 927 045 169.

Do you serve dinner during the week?

Not currently. Wednesday to Friday we’re open 9:00 to 17:00 for brunch and lunch. Dinner is Saturday and Sunday.

Is there vegetarian food at dinner?

Yes. A large part of the menu is vegetarian, and vegan dishes are marked. We’re not a vegetarian restaurant — there’s jerk chicken, beef and smoked salmon too — but mixed groups tend to eat well here.
